About this house plan

This 24x33 one-bedroom cabin house plan delivers 792 sq ft of efficient, single-story living, built around an open kitchen and great room that make the small footprint live larger than its numbers suggest. A gable roof finished in black corrugated metal and horizontal siding with cedar tongue-and-groove accents give the exterior a clean, modern-rustic character that works equally well tucked into trees or set on open land.

Inside, the kitchen measures 11'10" x 13'5" and opens directly into the 11'4" x 13'5" great room, so there's no wasted circulation space between cooking and living areas. The bedroom is 10'0" x 11'0", sized to comfortably fit a queen bed and dresser, with a full bathroom at 5'0" x 7'6" just off the hall. A dedicated laundry area (4'11" x 11'0") sits near the kitchen, and a dining space (11'5" x 6'4") anchors the transition to the 12'0" x 7'7" covered front porch, adding outdoor living space without adding to the heated square footage.

Structurally, the plan uses 2x6 wood stud framing with a pier-and-beam foundation, a good match for sloped, raised, or crawl-space sites where a full slab isn't practical or desired. The roof framing is detailed with multiple insulation assembly options (above-deck, below-deck, or in-cavity) so a builder can select the approach that fits local climate requirements. Wall and roof assemblies are shown down to the flashing and sealant level, and the set includes full electrical and plumbing plans alongside a material takeoff list for accurate quoting.

The compact, single-story layout makes this plan a strong fit for owner-builders taking on their first construction project, for a rental or short-term stay cabin, for a guest house or in-law unit on an existing property, or for anyone downsizing into a home with a smaller footprint and lower ongoing costs. Its size also keeps it within reach for many ADU regulations, though local zoning and lot coverage rules should always be confirmed first.

This plan is not sealed or engineered. Many jurisdictions require review and approval by a licensed architect or structural engineer before permitting, and local codes vary by location. Confirm requirements with your building department and consult a licensed professional before starting construction.

Building codes & your state

Please read before ordering. Our plans are drawn to 2021/2022 IRC standards. They do not include site-specific earthquake seismic or wind engineering (CA, OR, WA, NV residents take note). Coastal GA, SC & NC may require hurricane/wind engineering. Many states (incl. FL, NY, NJ, CO, PA and others) may require a locally licensed engineer or architect to review and seal plans before permitting. Call your local building department before placing your order, and remember our editable CAD files are designed to make that local review fast and inexpensive. Need help? Our engineering-stamp coordination service connects you with a licensed professional in your state.
