About this house plan

This 22' x 32' modern cabin house plan with loft delivers 928 sq ft of heated living space across a 1.5-story layout, pairing an open ground-floor living area with a private loft bedroom and landing nook above. The clean modern rooflines, vertical and lap wood siding, and oversized windows give it a contemporary cabin look that works just as well on a wooded lot as it does on an open rural site, and the 22-foot width keeps it buildable on narrow or oddly shaped parcels where a wider plan will not fit.

Inside, the 704 sq ft ground floor opens with a 10'6" x 15'6" living room that flows directly into a 10'6" x 7'0" dining area and a 10'6" x 8'6" kitchen, so the whole main level reads as one bright, connected space. A 10'6" x 12'0" bedroom with its own closet sits on this level along with a 10'0" x 8'6" full bathroom, a 4'6" x 6'0" laundry, and a 5'6" x 6'0" mud room off the entry that keeps boots and gear out of the living space. A stair leads up to the 224 sq ft loft, where a 13'0" x 12'0" loft bedroom with closet is paired with a 10'0" x 6'0" landing nook that works as a home office, reading corner, or extra sleeping space. Outside, an 8'0" x 18'0" covered deck adds 144 sq ft of shaded outdoor living, and the total footprint including the deck comes to 1,272 sq ft.

Construction is straightforward wood-frame building that owner-builders and small crews can handle. The cabin sits on a 6-inch concrete slab with 36" x 12" bearing footings, with pressure-treated sill plates anchored on 5/8-inch bolts. Exterior walls are insulated 6-inch wood stud assemblies clad in wood siding, and the roof uses 8-inch wood rafters with 2x6 framing members, insulated rafter cavities, and asphalt shingles. Total building height is 23 feet. The drawing set specifies a 200A electrical service with GFCI protection and hardwired smoke and CO detectors, plus PEX or copper supply lines, PVC drain and vent piping, and a 40-gallon water heater.

At 928 sq ft with one enclosed bedroom plus a loft bedroom, this plan fits people building a vacation cabin, a backyard ADU or in-law suite, a guest house, or a short-term rental where a loft sleeping area increases capacity without adding foundation cost. It also suits downsizers and first-time owner-builders who want a full kitchen, real laundry, and separated sleeping areas in a footprint they can finish on a modest budget.

These drawings are not engineer-stamped. Local codes, zoning rules, snow and wind loads, and foundation requirements vary, so have a licensed engineer or architect in your area review the set before you build or apply for permits.

Building codes & your state

Please read before ordering. Our plans are drawn to 2021/2022 IRC standards. They do not include site-specific earthquake seismic or wind engineering (CA, OR, WA, NV residents take note). Coastal GA, SC & NC may require hurricane/wind engineering. Many states (incl. FL, NY, NJ, CO, PA and others) may require a locally licensed engineer or architect to review and seal plans before permitting. Call your local building department before placing your order, and remember our editable CAD files are designed to make that local review fast and inexpensive. Need help? Our engineering-stamp coordination service connects you with a licensed professional in your state.
